The pipeline transportation project for concentrate powder at the Nanfen Concentrator of Bensteel Mining has been put into operation. The project includes a concentrate pump station system at the upstream end, a filtration system at the downstream end, and a roughly 25-kilometer-long iron concentrate pipeline connecting the Nanfen Concentrator to Bensteel’s Type C stockpile. Nine Pulsar sonar flow meters are deployed along this pipeline.
With the continuous advancement of pipeline transportation technology for iron ore concentrate slurries, traditional rail transport methods have gradually revealed several shortcomings, including high transportation costs, limited transport capacity, dust generation during transit, and significant seasonal impacts—issues that severely constrain the release of production capacity in the beneficiation process. Therefore, Bensteel Group and Bensteel Mining Company have decided to adopt a green, intelligent, and efficient pipeline transportation system for iron ore concentrate powder. Construction of this project commenced on June 1, 2022, with a total investment of 350 million yuan. The pipeline will be 25 kilometers long, and upon reaching full production capacity, it will have an annual transportation capacity of 5 million tons of iron ore concentrate. The 100-kilometer pipeline for Panzhihua Bai Ma Concentrate has been using sonar flow meters for 12 years.
In addition to the cases mentioned above, including the Baowu Taigang Yuanjiacun iron ore concentrate pipeline, the Fengxin New Era lithium mine tailings pipeline, the Jingcheng Iron Mine iron ore concentrate pipeline, the Shougang Macheng Iron Mine pipeline, and the HeSteel Leting Steel Pipeline, all have adopted sonar flow meters for flow measurement, leak monitoring, and blockage alerts.
Long pipeline distances, complex routing, significant elevation differences, and harsh climatic conditions—all these pose major challenges to long-distance pipelines. However, sonar flow meters offer precise measurements and stable operation, having served outdoors for over a decade with virtually no maintenance required. Despite the relentless onslaught of rain, snow, wind, and sand that have faded its color, the continuous stream of data it keeps transmitting ensures that it remains vividly remembered by all.
