The Tonkili Iron Ore Project is one of the key cooperation initiatives between China and Sierra Leone. Located in the Tonkili mining area of the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, it ranks among the world’s largest single‑site magnetite deposits. The Phase II beneficiation project entails constructing a concentrator with an annual capacity of 12 million tonnes, to mine and process iron ore from the transition zone.
Plaisen Instruments was honored to participate in this multinational project, providing sonar flow meters for the mineral processing facility. After more than two months of maritime transport, these instruments finally arrived on site just in time for the inaugural mining ceremony at the Tangkriili Project.
Upon receipt of the equipment, our company promptly initiated a series of preparatory measures, including dispatching technical personnel to Africa, and maintained timely online communication with on-site staff to ensure the smooth execution of the sonar flowmeter’s installation. In early November, our technical team arrived at the Tangkili site and commenced more than a month of installation, commissioning, and hands-on training.
Sonar flowmeters are the optimal choice for measuring the flow of magnetically conductive slurries, thanks to their high‑precision, highly stable measurement technology. The successful implementation at the Tangkeli Iron Mine further underscores the reliability and effectiveness of this technology. Plaisen Instruments will dedicate even greater enthusiasm and more professional services to bring sonar flowmeters, non‑nuclear clamp‑on density meters, and a broader range of high‑quality online instrumentation to the global mining industry.
